Guided Walks and Events

Join the Countryside Rangers on an guided walk or an event this year!

The Countryside Ranger Service organise and lead a number of events across the whole of Perth and Kinross each year. These events are open to everyone and most are free to take part in - where there is a cost, it is kept to the minimum. We publish a leaflet with details of these events, which also has details of lots of other events, from Cycling Summer to whats going on in our Parks and Greenspaces.

We also advertise our events alongside lots of events taking place in the countryside of Perth and Kinross in the Highland Whats On and, events taking place around Loch Leven, in a selection of Events posters. You can find out what other events are taking place in the county by looking at these.

The Ranger Service also participate in a number of walking festivals throughout the year.

JUNE

Coronation Road Walk
Wednesday 4th June, 11.00 to 15.00
Walk in the footsteps of the Kings of Scotland as you join the Ranger on this walk along the ancient Right of Way known as the Coronation Road. The path used to link Scone Palace to Falkland Palace via a ferry across the Tay ? we will take a circular walk back through Kinnoull Hill Woodland Park.

Kinnoull Parish Community Fete
Saturday 14th June 12.00 to 16.00
Traditional Community Fete brought to the Fair City. With live music and entertainment, stalls, sports, home-baking, and arts there will be something for all the family. This inaugural event has been organised by Kinnoull Parish Church and Primary School in association with Perth Council.

Lundie Craigs
Sunday 15th June, 13.30 to 16.30
An 8km (5 mile) walk involving a fairly strenuous climb, to the Lundie Craigs on the Perthshire/Angus border. Spectacular views await!

Red Kites of Glen Artney
Saturday 21st June, 10.00 to 16.00
The return of this popular walk; join the local Countryside Ranger up this gorgeous glen to discover fascinating facts about red kites. 7 miles with some hills, a good level of fitness required. Bring lunch, a drink and wear sturdy boots & waterproofs.

JULY

Queen Vic Walk
Wednesday 16th July, 10.00 to 17.00
An all day, family friendly walk at a comfortable pace on level ground. Join the Ranger and explore from Acharn to Queens Drive, finding follies and seeing stunning countryside. Lunch, a drink, stout footwear and waterproofs will be needed for this one!

Watery Wildlife of the River Earn
Saturday 26th July, 10.00 to 13.00
A flat walk alongside the River Earn looking at watery wildlife large and small! Bring a drink, stout footwear, waterproofs & binoculars if you have them. This is a linear walk & we will need to catch the 13.25 bus from Muthill back to Stuart Crystal (approx £1).

AUGUST

Bats about Blairgowrie
Wednesday 27th August, 20.30 to 22.00
The Ericht is used by a large number of these flying furry mammals; midge-munching mates of us all! Dispel the myths; find out the truth about the bats all around us.

Discovery Day at Loch Leven
Sunday 7th September
Now in its third year the Discovery Day continues to grow. With a variety of contributors, this years theme is the stories of Loch Leven and is sure to be a great success! So come along and take part and learn all about the amzing history and wildlife of Loch Leven.

OCTOBER

Nutty Seed Collections
Friday 3rd October, 11.00 to 12.30
Explore the woods on the Knock, discover which animals love nuts and collect your own to plant and grow into a real tree!

The Inner Tay Estuary Local Nature Reserve and Carse of Gowrie Orchards
Saturday 18th October 10:30 to 13.30
Join the Ranger on the walk around the Local Nature Reserve to observe the bird life of this wildlife rich area, and then on to explore the one of the many historic Orchards of the Carse of Gowrie.

Guided Walks - Conditions

Please try to arrive at your walk on time and be prepared to leave at the time stated in the programme.

If a walk is stated as BOOKING RECOMMENDED, we advise that you call the booking number to note your interest, however, the walk will definitely be going ahead.

If a walk is stated as BOOKING ESSENTIAL, it is essential that you book; numbers may be restricted for safety reasons or transport reasons and if there are low numbers the walk will be canceled (if you have booked, you will be informed prior to the event). Guided walks may also be cancelled if  the weather forecast is very bad.

Some events are a DROP IN SESSION. This means that you can come along anytime and meet one of the team! The Countryside Ranger Service run a number of guided walks and events over the course of the year. Information on these events can either be found on this website, or by picking up a leaflet in Tourist Information Centres.
