Portmoak Paths and Michael Bruce Way

Portmoak, on the east side of Loch Leven is made up of the principal settlements of Kinnesswood and Scotlandwell. The Parish has a rich history; Mary Queen of Scots escaped imprisonment from an island in loch Leven via Scotlandwell, Michael Bruce, a famous 18th centuary Scots poet was born in Kinesswood and the area has a unique natural heritage over looking Loch Leven, Scotland's largest lowland loch and one of Europe's most important wildfowl breeding sites.
There are a wide selection of paths to explore including the Michael Bruce Way. This 4km circular path runs from Scotlandwell to Kinnesswood and offers an insight into the works of Michael Bruce via poetry verse found along the route. The path also affords excellent views over Loch Leven.
Paths running from the Michael Bruce Way, lead onto Portmoak Moss, toward the Loch Leven Heritage Trail (opening summer 2008) and up Bishop Hill and toward the Lomond Hills Regional Park.
