Inner Tay Estuary Local Nature Reserve Management Plan
The Inner Tay Estuary Local Nature Reserve The Inner Tay Estuary is an area of international importance for its wildlife, specifically for the numbers of pink footed and greylag geese that over winter on the site. It is also a nationally important site for a range of other wildfowl including bar tailed godwit, redshank and goldeneye, amongst others. For this reason, the area carries several important wildlife designations - it is a SPA (Special Protection Area), SAC (Special Area of Conservation) which are European Designations; it is also a SSSI (Site of Special Scientic Interest) a national designation and a part of the area is designated as a Local Nature Reserve - LNR.
The LNR covers an area centred on the Invergowrie and Kingoodie Bay areas and encompasses an area of mudflats of vital importance to the resident and migratory wildlife. Perth and Kinross Council's Countryside Ranger Service Manage the site and this is done through a five yearly management plan. The Management Plan also encompasses the management aims for the nearby Kingoodie Quarry - whilst not within the boundaries of the LNR, this is an important area for wildlife and also for Public Access.
Management PlansThe Countryside Section produce 5 yearly management plans for each of the sites that they manage. These management plans summerise the current condition of the site and detail the strategic ambitions for the site - the objectives for the longer term (10+ years) management, and detail the short term (5 years) management in a perscriptive part of the plan.
The Inner Tay Estuary Local Nature Reserve Management Plan has been written in draft format, with proposals for the changes, developments, improvements and general management for the site outlined.
Environmental Assessment (Scotland) Act 2005
Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) Screening Determination for The Inner Tay Estuary Local Nature Reserve Management Plan.
SEA legislation requires the Council to consider whether any plans, programmes or strategies it produces will have any significant effects on the environment. In accordance with Section 8(1) of the Act and having consulted the three Consultation Authorities (SNH, SEPA and Historic Scotland), the Council considers that the The Inner Tay Estuary Local Nature Reserve Management Plan is not likely to have significant environmental effects. The Council has therefore determined that SEA is not required for this plan. This statement fulfils the duty of the Council to publish a determination under Regulation 10(2) of the Act.
