Your Better Life Index
Your better life index
The OECD has launched a new, interactive index that allows
people to measure and compare their lives in a way that goes beyond
traditional GDP numbers.
What is it?
The tool is part of a larger OECD Better Life
Initiative that aims to measure well-being and progress. The
index allows citizens to compare lives across 34 countries, based
on the following 11 dimensions
- housing
- income
- jobs
- community
- education
- environment
- governance
- health
- life satisfaction
- safety
- work-life balance
What does it do?
Your Better Life Index allows you to put different weights on
each of the topics, and thus to decide for yourself what
contributes most to well-being. It also helps show how prioritising
specific issues of well-being affects the overall picture. By
comparing your vision of a better life with the actual progress of
your country, you can become a better-informed citizen and better
impact the policymaking process. It is a pioneering, interactive
tool combining OECD substance with modern technology in order to
educate, promote dialogue and encourage consensus on the balance
between societal and economic well-being.
