What site does the brief cover?
The area comprises a variety of sites in both public and private
sector ownership around Mill Street in Perth centre. The
development area is bounded by: Blackfriars Wynd to the north;
Marks and Spencer to the east; and Mill Street public off
street car parking to the west and south. These sites are
listed as P12, P23, O10, O15 and O17 in the Perth Central Area Local Plan 1997.
What does the Local Plan say about development in this
area?
The Perth Central Area Local Plan shows the are
specifically zoned for Primary Business and Retail uses
(policies 37 and 38) and Secondary Business and Commercial Uses
(policies 41 and 42). In addition, the area is covered by specific
policies relating to the car parks in the area (policies 46-48) and
its location within the designated Area of Archaeological Interest
(policy 57).
When will the brief be used?
The brief will be used to help us when determining planning
applications for development in and around Mill Street.
What if the proposal does not accord with the
brief?
Developers whose proposals do not accord with the guidance set
out in the brief must be prepared to demonstrate that they will
achieve a better design solution more in keeping with the character
of the area.
