Update on Eastern Local Plan (new) Review
Are you continuing to progress the Draft Perth/Perth Central Area and Draft Eastern Area Local Plans to the finalised stage?
The Enterprise and Infrastructure Committee, at their meeting on 30 January 2008, took the decision not to progress the plans to Finalised Stage.
Why was this decision been made?
This decision was based on a consideration of the implications of a recent Northern Ireland High Court case into Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and legal advice we received from counsel.
When will the plan be reviewed?
We have been advised by the Scottish Government that we should not start work on new local plans under the current legislation due to the impending commencement of the new Planning etc. (Scotland) Act 2006 in October 2008.
Will you do any background work in preparation for the new system?
We will undertake work in preparation for the new style development plans and details of this work and the associated timescales will be submitted to the next meeting of the Enterprise and Infrastructure Committee on 26 March 2008 and will be available using the links on this page in the near future
What will happen to your consideration of planning applications?
We will continue considering planning applications having regard to the adopted Local Plans. However, the Draft Plans will be treated as a 'material consideration'.
What will happen to the comments I submitted on the Draft Local Plans?
Any comments submitted in response to the Draft Local Plans will be used to assist in the identification of issues to be addressed by the Main Issues Report which is the first formal stage in the preparation of the new style development plan.
Is it an entirely new plan?
It is an entirely new plan prepared under the new Act. This means that any representations you wish to be considered following publication of the Main Issues Report (whether repeating comments you've already made on the Draft Local Plans or raising new issues) will have to be submitted then.
Will you be issuing any guidance on how to get involved?
We will publish further details on how you can get involved in this process later in the year.
Where can I get more information?
You can get more information by looking at the Committee Report which you can get from the downloads section on this page. To find out more about Strategic Environmental Assessment use the links on this page.
