Cost - planning applications and approvals

What will I have to pay a fee for?

You will have to pay a fee for a planning application when you intend to make

  • an application for planning permission in principle planning  permission or for full planning permission, including "retrospective" applications where development has already taken place
  • an application for the approval of matters specified in conditions applied to planning permission in principle (which has replaced  'reserved matters' applications).
  • an application for consent to display advertisements
  • a deemed application arising from enforcement notice appeals
  • an application arising from certificates of lawful use or development
  • certain applications for the prior approval of a planning authority

What fee do I have to pay?

A schedule of the current fees is available to download from this page. In most cases you will also have to pay the cost of placing a statutory advertisement in the local newspaper, unless the planning application is in a conservation area or affects the setting of a listed building. The current cost of this advertisement is £61.10 (including VAT). The processing of your application will be quicker if the payment is submitted along with the application. In a small number of cases the advertisement charge does not apply and in these cases we will refund the advertisement fee.

How do I pay the fee?

Fees should be paid by enclosing a cheque payable to Perth and Kinross Council if submitting an application on paper forms or by paying by debit or credit card as part of the process of submitting an online application.

When will I not need to pay a fee?

You do not have to pay an application fee nor an advertisement charge when you are making an application for:

  • listed building consent or conservation area consent
  • a certificate of appropriate alternative development
  • lopping or felling trees which are subject to tree preservation orders
  • approvals required by any condition attached to a full planning permission.
