The Council have a legal responsibility to monitor and assess the air for various pollutants, to identify any necessary remedial action and ensure improvement of air quality.
Modern pollution legislation has been enacted to prevent contamination of the land, among other purposes. However the legacy of historical pollution must also be assessed and dealt with where necessary, to ensure that land is suitable for its intended use. This involves close consultation and cooperation with Planning Officers.
