Anti Social Noise Team

Perth & Kinross Council has an Anti-Social Noise Service which aims to tackle the problem of excessive noise within a residential setting e.g. amplified music, prolonged DIY activity. Advice and control of commercial noise can also be dealt with by this service.
Local authority officers are available to investigate any noise nuisance emitted from one residential property that can be heard in a room of another residential property. This includes noise emitted from land belonging exclusively to, or enjoyed with, any residential property e.g. garden, garage, shed or common close.
In response to this type of complaint, officers will need to gain access to the complainant’s property whilst the noise is ongoing. The noise level will be measured within a habitable room, normally a living room or bedroom. The measurement will be compared to permitted levels relative to the time of day/night.
If the noise measurement exceeds the permitted level, then action may be taken. The resident generating the noise will be advised that the situation is unacceptable. In the vast majority of cases this is all that is required and we seek to resolve all disputes amicably.
However if the noise persists formal powers exist to serve a Warning Notice. If a Warning Notice is not complied with, a Fixed Penalty Notice (£100) can then be issued to the person responsible for the noise.
This service covers the whole of the Perth & Kinross Council area and works in partnership with Tayside Police. The Anti-Social Noise Team operates between 8.45 am and 2.00 am Monday to Friday and between 4.00 pm and 2.00 am on Saturdays and Sundays. Outwith these hours, Tayside Police will be available to take your call on 0845 600 5705.
Any noise calls made to the Police or other Council numbers will be passed to the Anti-Social Noise Team for action. Further information is available in our Anti-Social Noise Team Leaflet.
