Waste legislation for business
Last updated | 31/10/2011
The purpose of the UK Waste legislation is to control the
keeping, transport, treatment, deposit and disposal of waste.
It controls the waste management industry (of which Perth and
Kinross Council is part of) and it controls specific waste streams
such as Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and Animal
By-products.
Who regulates waste legislation in Scotland?
The Scottish
Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) is the regulating
body for all environment legislation in Scotland.
Confused by legislation?
Environmental legislation is complex and often confusing for
businesses and there are some specific resources set up so that
businesses can better understand what and how
environmental legislation affects them.
Other useful tools...
Netregs Home Page is a useful tool
developed by the Environment Agency to navigate
through environmental and waste legislation.
Make sure you fulfill your duty of care and check your waste is
being handled by a licensed carrier.
Other websites include the Envirowise Web Tool that helps identify key
legislation relevant to your sector and the Scottish Government also has lists of
waste regulation.
www.legislation.gov.uk holds most of
the full text of UK and Scottish legislation online.
