Garden Waste

A small number of Perth and Kinross residents receive a garden waste only collection from their brown-lidded bin. If you are not sure what service you receive please check the post code finder.

Perth & Kinross Council collect garden waste in order to produce a valuable resource and reduce the need for landfill.

Garden waste, when landfilled, decomposes slowly without oxygen. When the green waste rots away, the greenhouse gas methane is produced which contributes to global warming.

Additionally, the rotting garden waste produces a liquid known as leachate, which if not controlled properly can potentially pollute the environment.

Your brown-lidded bin has been provided to allow you to recycle your garden waste.

What kind of waste can go in the brown-lidded bin?

  • Coffee ground & tea bags/leaves
  • Flowers & plants
  • Grass cuttings
  • Hedge trimmings
  • Leaves

  • Weeds

It is important that only the correct materials go into your brown -lidded bin.
