Aluminium Foil

The average household uses 1.1 kg of recyclable foil per year. Foil can be recycled in Can Points at any Recycling Centre or Point.

Please do not put aluminium foil in your blue-lidded bin as the materials collected in it are processed differently to that collected at the Recycling Centres & Points.

What kinds of foil are accepted?

Clean aluminium foil, takeaway trays and foil chocolate wrappers are accepted. You can check if it is aluminium by scrunching it up. If it uncurls then it is not aluminium.

What kinds of foil are not accepted?

Foil covered paper wrappers and metal coated plastic film is not accepted. Crisp and snack packets are usually made from metal coated plastic film.

What is the foil recycled into?

Recycled foil can be used to make car engine parts.

Foil collected by the Council is recycled by a sub-contractor.
