Bicycle reuse and recycling
There are 23 million bicycles in the UK and every year another
2.75 million new ones are sold across the UK (2005 statistic), some
of which are bought to keep up with the latest fashion.
Where to Donate Bikes
Bikes of any condition, as well as bike parts and accessories,
can be donated for recycling at the following places:

Recycling Centres at Friarton (Perth), Kinross, Pitlochry,
Aberfeldy and Crieff

What Happens?
The bicycles are repaired and refurbished by qualified mechanics
at the Perth Bike Station before being sold back to the community
at affordable prices. There are weekly sales at the Perth Bike
Station premises, quarterly bike sales are also held at
different throughout the Perth and Kinross. Keep an eye out here
for locations and dates.
Any bikes that are beyond repair are taken apart, with parts either
used to make up or repair other bikes, or sold onto scrap
metal merchants.
Why Recycle Bikes?
Apart from diverting waste from landfill, refurbished bikes are
more affordable and allow usable parts to be directly reused
instead of going to landfill. It also supports The Bike
Station, a local social enterprise charity.
Where is the Bike Station?
The Perth Bike Station is based at Mid Friarton, Perth (PH2 8EL)
- just two minutes from Friarton Recycling Centre. It is
opposite the St James VI Business Centre and has car and
bike parking facilities.
