Glass

Glass makes up about 7% by weight of your household waste, and is an easy product to separate out from the rest of your waste as it is readily recognisable.

Where can you Recycle Glass?

You can recycle glass bottles and jars at all Recycling Centres and Points in the Perth and Kinross area. Use the postcode finder or search Sort-It to locate your nearest option.
Please remember to:

  • Put green & blue glass into the green bank
  • Put brown glass into the brown bank
  • Put clear glass into the clear bank

We need to separate the colours of glass so that they can be made back into bottles and jars. Please do not recycle glass crockery, pyrex dishes or window glass as they are a different type of glass.

Why Recycle Glass?

Less energy is needed to make recycled glass into new bottles compared to the amount of energy required to make glass from raw materials. Using recycled glass saves the need to quarry hundreds of thousands of tonnes of primary raw materials each year.

What Happens to the Glass?

The glass collected by Perth & Kinross Council for recycling, taken to a reprocessor where it is re-melted and re-blown into new glass.
