What plastic can be recycled?

Any rigid plastic packaging can be recycled, including:

  • plastic milk bottles
  • plastic juice bottles
  • yoghurt cartons
  • fruit punnets
  • ice cream tubs
  • margarine tubs

Why recycle plastic?

Due to consumer demand, plastic in all forms is one of the most widely used packaging materials with over 5 million tonnes produced annually.  Although plastic is a relatively light material it makes up a large percentage of waste going to landfill by volume.

What to do with plastic containers for recycling.

  • Wash out to stop it smelling
  • Squash the carton/bottle/container
  • Remove the lid and place it in the general waste bin

Please note that we do not collect milk bottle tops for recycling.

What is made from the recycled plastic?

Items such as plastic bollards, benches and non-slip decking are popular outlets for the recycled plastic.
