Collecting Stamps Can Help Save the Albatross
Perth & Kinross Council has joined forces with the
Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) Save the Albatross Campaign, to encourage
people to donate their used postage stamps rather than throwing
them in the bin,.
The Recycle Postage Stamps Campaign runs across Perth and
Kinross'
13 libraries and 3 mobile libraries.
To take part, all you need to do is tear off the used postage
stamps from envelopes you receive, pop into your nearest
library or mobile library and put them into the green collection
caddy, which will be easy to spot near to an RSPB poster picturing
an albatross. Perth & Kinross Council then send them
on to the RSPB.
Even a small number of stamps collected from each person will be
very much appreciated. Money can be raised from all
types of stamps whether they are used or un-used, UK, foreign or
even first day covers.
To get an idea of how much money can be raised, £1.50 is
raised for each kilogram of UK stamps and £12.50 is raised
for each kilogram of foreign stamps.
The RSPB use the fund to purchase specialist equipment that
helps save albatrosses from being accidentally killed by fishing
vessels. For example, a tori-line (a bird scaring
device) for a long line fishing vessel costs around
£50.
So by collecting unwanted stamps, you are helping to reduce the
amount of waste going to landfill and helping a great cause.
