for the following logos to help you identify recyclable cans:
Can labels do not need to be removed prior to
recycling. Please rinse your food cans to avoid pests.
Please do not recycle paint tins in Can Points or the blue-lidded
bin. Paint contamination can prevent a whole lorry load of
recyclates from being recycled. Visit the
Paint page for more details.
Why Recycle Cans?
Remelting aluminium to form new metal uses only 5% of the energy
that would be required to make it from raw materials. Aluminium can
be recycled again and again without any loss of quality.
Steel is separated magnetically from aluminium permitting mixed
collection of steel and aluminium cans. Steel recycling uses
only 70% of the energy required to produce virgin steel.
Recycled cans are made into new cans or other metal products such
as household appliances and cars.
Visit the website in the right-hand column for more information
about aluminium and steel recycling.
