Garden Waste
The Council offers a service whereby householders can take their garden waste along to recycling centres. In some areas we provided a kerbside garden waste service or you can compost at home.
Why Compost Garden Waste?
Perth and Kinross Council collect garden waste in order to produce a valuable resource and reduce the need for landfill.
When garden waste is landfilled, it decomposes slowly without oxygen. When this waste rots away, the greenhouse gas methane is produced contributing to global warming.
Additionally, the rotting garden waste produces a liquid known as leachate, which if not properly controlled can potentially pollute the environment.
What happens to the garden waste?
Along with the garden waste from the kerbside recycling service the waste collected from the recycling centres is taken to a central composting facility.
The composted material is used in landscaping and is also available for the public to pick-up at the Friarton Recycling Centre, Perth.
