To find out where you can recycle glass see Recycling Centres and Recycling Points.

Glass makes up about 8% by weight of your household waste and is an easy product to separate out from the rest of your waste as it is readily recognisable.

Why Recycle Glass?

  • There is less energy used to melt recycled glass into new bottles compared to the amount of energy required to make new glass from raw materials.

  • Using recycled glass in furnaces saves hundreds of thousands of tonnes of primary raw materials each year. This saves habitats by reducing the need for quarrying of raw materials.

How to Recycle Glass?

You can recycle glass bottles and jars at all recycling centres in the Perth and Kinross Area. All you have to remember is:

  • Put green & blue glass into the green bank

  • Put brown glass into the brown bank

  • Put clear glass into the clear bank

  • We need to separate the colours of glass so that they can be made back into bottles and jars.

  • Please do not recycle glass crockery, pyrex dishes or window glass as they are a different type of glass.

What happens to the recycled glass?

The majority of glass collected by Perth and Kinross Council is taken to OI United Glass Recyclers in Alloa where it is remelted and reblown into new glass containers.
