Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) refers to items such as televisions and stereos, cookers to computers and electronic toys.
Items such as these contain many different components that often harbour dangerous chemicals and flame retardants which should be disposed of properly.
However, they also contain many metals such as aluminium and copper and other matierals such as plastic and glass that can be recycled.
Many of these items now become obsolete very quickly and we are generating large amounts of equipment that can be reused or recycled.
How can they be reused?
Small electrical items such as irons and lamps can be taken to the Perth Furniture Project.
Computers can be recycled through Tayside Foundation for the Conservation of Resources or if you have a "Dell" computer they take back old equipment for further information see here.
Alternatively for repair please see your Waste Aware Scotland's "Sort-It" directory or http://www.yell.com/
How can they be recycled?
If you buy a new appliance the retailer will often take away the old appliance.
Please take any of the following items to your local recycling centre. If you can't get the item to the recycling centre, Perth and Kinross Council offers a special uplift service.
These items are taken by a sub-contractor for refurbishment or recovery where materials are recycled.
