Household Waste
Make sure your wheeled bin is put out at the agreed
location by 7:30 am on the day of collection.
You can view your
collection dates online or you can request the collection information in postcard
format online.
- Do not overfill your bin and ensure that the lid is closed
- Do not put out additional waste including garden waste next to
your bin as this is not permitted and will not be uplifted
- Do not put any bricks, soil, rubble or timber in the bin
Failure to present your bin correctly will result in your bin(s)
not being emptied. For more information on this please see our
Waste and Recycling Bin Policy.
Items not accepted in the green-lidded bin
For information on items that are not accepted in the
green-lidded bin such as cooking oil, engine oil, paint, bricks,
rubble, soil and timber, please view our
Green-Lidded General Waste Bin page.
Reporting a missed bin collection
If we have missed your bin collection, help us investigate by
completing the online form for missed bin collections. We'll
need information about the location of the missed residential waste
such as your address and the date and time your bin was put out for
collection.
Please leave your bin out for collection as we will arrange for the
depot to collect it soon.
Pink sack collection
Some households remain on a pink sack collection where there are
issues with access for bin collection vehicles or with the storage
of wheelie bins. Pink sacks are issued every 12 months to
householders on this service. If you require to purchase
additional bags, please either:
- Visit your local area office to pay for and collect your sacks.
To find your nearest area office, visit the
Council Offices page, or
- Contact the Customer Service Centre on 01738 476476. Payment
will be taken electronically, then the sacks can be collected from
the library reception at your nearest community campus. For details
of your nearest community campus, please visit the
Community Life and Leisure pages.
If you visit your local community campus without having first
telephoned the Customer Service Centre, you will be asked to do so
via an internal telephone, so that payment can be made
electronically. Payments cannot be made directly at the community
campuses.
Special uplift
On request there is also a
Special Uplift service for bulky household items, e.g. cookers,
3 piece suites etc.
If you don't know your day for general waste collection or there
is a problem with your wheeled bin please call The Environment
Service Helpline on 01738 476476 with your full address and
postcode and an operator will be happy to assist you.
Assisted lifts for bins
The assisted lift
service (this means that the Council will collect your bin
from a suitable place at your home) is only provided for people
who, due to their age or disability are unable to present or
retrieve their own bin and who have no other source of support to
help them to do this. Please download and complete the
assisted lift application form and return it to The Environment
Service.
Once the completed form is received, your property will be risk
assessed to ensure that we can safely uplift your bins, and you
will be contacted to confirm the type of assistance you will
receive.
Reporting a missed assisted collection
You can report a missed assisted collection online. We will book
another uplift for you and confirm the date for this by
email.
If you don't know your day for general waste collection or there is
