Use Me Again Campaign

Perth & Kinross Council, in partnership with the St John's Shopping Centre, are spearheading a campaign to encourage shoppers to use long life cotton bags instead of disposable plastic bags.

The 'Use Me Again' or 'UMA' campaign will be launched with a Bag Exchange event at the St John's Centre on Saturday 27th October. Shoppers will be encouraged to swap the plastic bags they pick up during the day for a free long life cotton bag instead.

Annually in the UK more than 17.5 billion carrier bags are given away and the average shopper could be using as many as 300 each year.* By highlighting this issue we hope to get people to think more about their use of plastic bags, do they need more every time they go shopping, could they reuse old ones or take a long life or material bag instead. If they do take a bag, can they reuse it in some way and finally, if there is no use for the bag, make sure it gets recycled.

Tips for remembering to take your reusable bags to the shops
Do you keep forgetting to take bags on your shopping trips? Do you always leave them at home and only remember when you get to the check out?
Please see the downloads section to the right hand side of the page for tips on remembering.

Information and Tips for retailers
