Waste Awareness
The way we dispose of our waste is changing. We are moving towards a culture of "Reduce, Reuse and Recycle" rather than the "Dig and Dump" attitude that has prevailed through the use of landfills.
As part of this culture change it is recognised that waste awareness plays a significant role in changing how we all dispose of our waste through:
- education and awareness of reduce, reuse, recycle
- the economic, social and environmental impact of waste
- how to use your
encouraging a more responsible attitude towards waste and where it ends up once it has been disposed of.
In Perth and Kinross we have adopted a wide ranging programme of Waste Awareness including:
- a range of literature
- providing talks to community groups and schools
- hosting stands at local events
- providing up to date information including here on the website and on local recycling point information boards
A 6 part self study Waste Aware course is now available online. Produced by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) in association with the Open University it encourages public participation in the dealing with waste in a more sustainable way.
