Farmers' Markets
Perth Farmers' Market
Perth Farmers' Market began in April 1999, the first in
Scotland. It was a great success, the public welcomed the
opportunity to buy Perthshire food directly from producers. It
became a regular event, held on the first Saturday of every
month.
Perth Farmers' Market has steadily grown in strength and
popularity, with an initial twelve stalls increasing to about three
times that number. Shoppers feel they can trust the stallholders
because of the strict rules the market operates, and the fact that
it is an independent body, run by the producers themselves.
Customers are happy to pay a bit extra for the exceptional quality
of produce on offer, because of the taste, traceability and value
for money they are getting.
As well as buying food and drink, market goers can watch
cookery demonstrations, sponsored by Cittaslow and Slow Food
Perth, for fresh ideas on how to use the produce
available.
Perth Farmers' Market reached a significant milestone in 2009 when
it celebrated its 10th Anniversary. Visit www.perthfarmersmarket.co.uk for more
