Carers support needs assessment

Perth and Kinross Council has a duty to provide you with an opportunity to speak to someone about what help would be useful to your caring role. We call it an assessment of your support needs. Call us on 0845 30 111 20 or email AccessTeam@pkc.gov.uk to have it arranged.

How can this assessment help you?

It will help you and the Council decide what help would be best for you and the person you are caring for. It can be the gateway to services that might help you personally so that you are able to continue caring.

If you are getting tired or stressed we can get you in touch with our alternative therapy services.

If you had to give up some of your own interests because you are no longer able to go out we can organize respite care to give you a day off.

If you struggle with money we can get our Welfare Rights Team to see if you are entitled to any benefits.

We'll check if our other services such as Care at Home, social respite, or respite in a care home, could be of any use for the person you are caring for to give you some time to yourself.

We can also put you in touch with support groups where you could share your concerns and experiences with other carers.
We check if there is any training or advice you would find helpful, such as:

  • Side effects of the medication,
  • How to cope with the illness of the person you are caring for,
  • Handling and moving training (so that you don't harm yourself when helping the person you are caring for to move around the house).
