Message from the Chair

Welcome to our child protection website, which has been
significantly improved over the last few months to enhance its
appearance, contents and functionality. This work was
undertaken primarily in response to the findings of a recent survey
we undertook with just under 1000 practitioners across Perth and
Kinross.
Within this website, many new features have been added to the
existing information, guidance and signposting. More
information has been added in the form of downloads and electronic
links, which we hope you will find to be relevant and useful.
Information has been placed under a number of banners,
including
Advice to Children and Young People,
Advice to Parents and Carers and
Advice to Practitioners.
New features include
Internet Safety Advice,
Child Trafficking Advice and the ever
popular
Child Protection Interactive Training Package all of
which can now be accessed internally and externally. A
further enhancement has been the creation of a
What’s New in Child Protection?
Page which provides information on recent child
protection developments across Scotland.
Child Protection Committees have existed across Scotland for
many years and continue to operate in terms of the new
National Guidance for Child Protection in Scotland 2010 [pdf
2MB].
The business functions of the Perth and Kinross Child protection
Committee are:
Continuous Improvement
• Policies, Procedures and Protocols
• Self Evaluation, Performance Management and Quality
Assurance
• Promoting Good Practice
• Training and Staff Development
Strategic Planning
• Communication, Collaboration and Co-operation
• Making and Maintaining Links with Other Planning
Fora
Public Information and Communication
• Raising Public Awareness
• Involving Children and Young People and their
Families
However, procedures and guidance cannot in themselves protect
children; a competent, skilled and confident workforce can. Child
Protection is a complex system requiring the interaction of
services, the public, children and families. For the system to work
effectively it is essential that everyone understands the
contribution they can make and how those contributions work
together to provide the best outcomes for children.
On behalf of the Perth and Kinross Child Protection Committee
members, I hope that you will find this website informative,
helpful and user friendly.
We are keen to continue the development of this website and
welcome any comments and suggestions you may have.
Please feel free to contact us at childprotectioncommittee@pkc.gov.uk
to let us know what you think.
