Services for Children and their Families who have a Profound Disability
If your child has been diagnosed with a profound physical or learning disability, or an illness which is chronic or life threatening, he/she may be eligible for an assessment by the
Child Health Social Work Team.
This team has a responsibility to carry out individual assessments based on the child/young person's level of disability and the impact of this on the child and his/her family. The team offer information, advice, support and access to
respite resources.
The child will be involved in their assessment, (taking into account their level of understanding), so that their views can be considered. We aim to work in partnership with parents and families throughout the assessment process. In agreement with parents we will also have contact with other Services who are involved with the child eg Nursery, School and Health Services.
Respite provision comes in a variety of forms, depending on the needs of the child and family and on the resources available.
