Transport to Community Care services

Last updated | 26/05/2010

The Council's Public Transport Unit now arranges transport to and from Community Care services such as day care for older people and Adult Resource Centres for people with learning disabilities. The transport is provided by a mix of the Council's own vehicles, voluntary organisations and private sector transport operators.

Eligibility
Eligibility for transport is determined by a service user's Care Manager and queries regarding this should be made directly to the relevant person within  Community Care.

Information
Once the transport has been arranged, each service user will be notified of the arrangements for their transport. In addition, each service user who receives transport will get a copy of the 'Service Users and Carers Leaflet' which should provide all the necessary information relating to their transport.

Contracts
If you are a transport operator and would like to find out more about tendering for Community Care and other transport contracts, please go to the 'Transport Tendering' section.

Private sector operators undertaking Community Care Transport Contracts are subject to detailed conditions of contract that cover a wide range of requirements relating to their safe and legal operation. One of the requirements is the mandatory screening of criminal records for all drivers and attendants used on transport contracts.

If you would like any more information on any aspect of transport to Community Care services then please contact the Public Transport Unit on 0845 3011130 or email publictransport@pkc.gov.uk.
