Criminal Justice Social Work
Criminal Justice Social Work Services aim to reduce the
unnecessary use of prison sentences and secure care by providing
suitable community-based alternatives. In this way we
contribute to community safety and help to reduce the unnecessary
use of custody.
Our objectives are to:
- Provide the court with a range of meaningful alternatives to
prison;
- Provide effective supervision of offenders within the
community;
- Challenge offending behaviour;
- Help offenders to recognise the impact of their behaviour on
themselves, and the community;
- Work in partnership with other services and agencies to ensure
credible, consistent services which promote social inclusion;
- Help individuals to change their behaviour and so reduce
re-offending in the longer term;
- Work collaboratively with the Scotish Prison Service to assess
and manage the risk posed by those undergoing prison
sentences;
- Work collaboratively with Tayside Police and other agencies to
assess and manage and reduce the risk posed by offenders to their
communities.
