Criminal Justice Social Work

Criminal Justice Social Work Services aim to reduce the unnecessary use of prison sentences and secure care by providing suitable community-based alternatives. In this way we contribute to community safety and help to reduce the unnecessary use of custody.

Our objectives are to:

  • Provide the court with a range of meaningful alternatives to prison;
  • Provide effective supervision of offenders within the community;
  • Challenge offending behaviour;
  • Help offenders to recognise the impact of their behaviour on themselves, and the community;
  • Work in partnership with other services and agencies to ensure credible, consistent services which promote social inclusion;
  • Help individuals to change their behaviour and so reduce re-offending in the longer term;
  • Work collaboratively with the Scotish Prison Service to assess and manage the risk posed by those undergoing prison sentences;
  • Work collaboratively with Tayside Police and other agencies to assess and manage and reduce the risk posed by offenders to their communities.
