Kinnoull Adult Resource Centre
Kinnoull Adult Resource Centre is a purpose built Day Centre for
adults with a learning disability who may also have a physical
disability. The Resource Centre provides Day places for up to 45
people aged between 16 and 65, from Monday to Friday. It is
situated in a residential area of Perth and the provider is Perth
& Kinross Council.
We believe that people with a learning disability should have
access to the same facilities and services used by other people.
Our philosophy is that everyone has the right to live as ordinary a
life as possible, have the correct level of support to make
informed choices, and the opportunity to develop skills in
independent living.
The Centre is committed to facilitate the changes brought about
by the Scottish Government's The
Same As You? Recommendations [PDF: 1.38Mb]. Service users
at Kinnoull Adult Resource Centre are encouraged to choose from
Educational Social, Leisure and Recreational activities. College
placements can be arranged through the Centre as can opportunities
for supported employment. Some of the choices which are on offer to
the people who use the Centre are:-
- The Arc Art Group is based in Moncrieff Hall in
Perth.
- Community Groups access Comrie Croft and Auchterarder
Community Shool.
- A Drama Group which has working links with Perth Theatre and
other companies.
Presently, transport to the Centre can be provided if required,
but service users are encouraged to travel independently as much as
possible. Service users usually bring a packed lunch, cook their
own with staff assistance or access facilities in the
community. Staff offer support and supervision
throughout the lunch period.

Details of referral process
The Learning Disability Social Work Team, based at
Birch Avenue, organise referrals and will offer a place based on
availability, suitability and need. There can be an initial viewing
of the Centre, prior to attending and an initial six-week trial
period. After this trial period, the service is agreed upon and the
service user is given regular update meetings and a yearly
review. Young people who have attended specialised schools or
units have already been linked to a Social Worker from the time of
their Future Needs Review.
