Us and the Housing
For many years, Perth & Kinross Council has consulted with
residents about what's happening now and in the future in the area.
Although anyone can talk with the Council, some groups of people
rarely do so. People with learning disabilities are one of these
groups.
Us and the Housing is a group of people with learning
disabilities from Perth and Kinross. The group was set up in
September 2010 to talk to the Council about things that would make
their lives better. They meet every 4-6 weeks and are currently
focusing on three areas:
- Communication and information
- Antisocial behaviour
- Community involvement
On 30 June 2011 the group hosted an event to give them the
opportunity to talk about these issues with people who were in a
position to help. A feedback report from this event is available to
download from the links on the right-hand side of this page.
Next steps
Following on from the June event, the group is now looking at a
range of activities:
- Circulating the report throughout Perth & Kinross
Council and to interested parties.
- A DVD about Disability Related Harassment is planned with
disabled people, school children and community safety
representatives.
- Work is underway with Perth College to design and deliver a
course about housing and tenancy skills.
- The drama group plan to make a DVD of the plays performed at
the event with Perth College.
- The Us and the Housing group will continue to meet and will
include new initiatives. New members will be invited onto the group
when possible.
