Older peoples day services
Who are day services for?
Day care services in Perth and Kinross are one of the ways in
which we support people to remain independent and active members of
their local communities. Day services for older people play an
important social role in supporting people to meet with others in
their own age group, and take part in activities which interest
them either within a day centre, or in the community with
support.
The Council runs day services at Rannoch and Lewis Place Day Centres and Strathmore Day Opportunities (Blairgowrie
area) which provide day care for the elderly in the
respective areas. We also offer day care in dedicated areas of
our residential homes in Auchterarder and Aberfeldy.
How can I get a referral to day services?
Referrals will often be through a GP, or a social worker who is
already working with the individual. However, if you are not in
contact with a social worker and would like an assessment of your
needs to see if day services - or any other type of
support - is suitable for you, please contact the Community Care
Access Team on 0845 30 111 20 or email accessteam@pkc.gov.uk
Costs
There is a charge for day services at Rannoch Road, Lewis
Place or Parkdale, and for activities supported by Strathmore
Day Opportunities. The amount someone pays will depend on
their individual financial circumstances. Everyone will be offered
a financial assessment and comprehensive benefits check to ensure
that they pay the correct amount and that they are receiving all
the benefits they are entitled to.
The maximum amount anyone will pay will depend on how
many times a week they attend a Day Care centre or receive day
opportunities. The full costs from April 2012 are set out in the
table below. Please note a session means a full or part day.

The session cost for day care includes transport to and from the
centre, plus meals provided within the centre. The reduced
costs for day opportunities reflects the fact that while transport
to and from activities will be included, the costs of meals, snacks
and admission charges will be paid by the client on the
day.
