Care Homes
Who is the service for?
Residential care homes are suitable for people for whom living
in their own home, even with support, is no longer a practical
option. Although mainly considered a long-term care
option, most residential care homes also have beds available
on a short-term basis for
respite.
The Council operates 3 care homes at
Beechgrove House, Parkdale and Dalweem. We also work closely with care
homes across Perth and Kinross which are privately owned or
run by voluntary organisations or charitable trusts. You can
find
full list of care homes in this area (you can search by area or
category of care provided).
How can I get a referral to residential care?
Referrals will most often by through a GP, or a social worker
who is already working with the individual. However, if you are not
in contact with a social worker and would like an assessment of
your needs to see if residential care - or any other type of
support - is suitable for you, please contact the Community Care
Access Team on 0845 30 111 20 or email accessteam@pkc.gov.uk
Choosing a care home
There are a number of things you will need to consider when
choosing the care home which best meets your needs. Action on
Elder Abuse has produced information which may help you
with some of the things to consider.
Costs
If you are assessed as needing care in a care home there will
also be a need for you to be financially assessed to help work out
what you can afford to pay towards your care. This is
explained in more detail on the
'financial guidance for entering a care home' pages. We
want everyone in a care home to receive a quality of service that
is acceptable. All adults within a care home will be covered
by our Adult Support and Protection Guidance. All care homes
must be registered with the Care Inspectorate. Care homes
receive regular inspections from the Inspectorate and you can
find reports for any care home on their site at www.careinspectorate.com
A number of quality measures are also linked to the fee levels
that are paid to care homes by local authorities. We also
undertake contract monitoring visits to make sure that these
quality measures are being met. The quality measures used are
available to download from the links on the right-hand side of this
page.
