Beechgrove House is registered as a Residential Care Home for
older people in Perth City. It is easily accessible by a 10 minute
bus service from the City Centre. There are lovely grounds with
open grass and patio linked to the ground floor sitting rooms which
allow for easy access.
To provide a caring, comfortable and homely environment where
older residents are encouraged, through appropriate support and
stimulation, to maximise their physical, intellectual, emotional
and social potential.
At Beechgrove House we aim to recognise your right to a valued and
fulfilled lifestyle. Our main principles are:

all times; and enjoy a full range of social relationships.
- Privacy: Your right to have your privacy and property
respected; and be free from unnecessary intrusion.

able. As a resident, you will be supported in taking normal
everyday risks within your capabilities and will be supported and
encouraged to voice your opinions and express your view.
Your religious, cultural and ethnic needs will be recognised at
all times.
We are registered for a maximum of 48 bedrooms, divided into 5
units. Each unit has its own sitting room and small kitchen area as
well as 2 toilets and a fully fitted bathroom with electrically
operated seating device and two with jacuzzi. Shower facilities are
also available. At present 38 of the beds are used for permanent
care, 2 beds for planned respite care and a further 7 beds are in
our short stay unit.
There is a Fun Fund Committee which is run by Staff,
Clients and Carers. We raised funds by holding BBQ's,
raffles.
Within the Unit, the staff organise an Arts and Crafts Group,
indoor bowls, sing-a-long evenings, games nights, video nights and
exercise classes for residents wishing to participate. We also
arrange for various professional entertainment companies to come in
on a regular basis. Residents have the opportunity to participate
in planning and maintenance of the gardens and greenhouse.
A mini bus is also available to take residents to hospital or
doctor appointments. We often take clients out to shops, the
library and any other social events.
There is also a small shop run by WRVS charity where residents can
buy sweets, juice, crisps and small items of personal care.

The Scottish
Commission for the Regulation of Care inspects Beechgrove House
on a regular basis to make sure we adhere to the National Care
Standards.
Unit Managers and Senior Social Care Officers have either a diploma
in Social Work, Certificate of Qualification in Social Work (CQSW),
Certificate in Social Service (CSS), SVQ IV in Social Care or
registered Managers Award. Social Care Officers have achieved or
are working towards SVQ II and SVQ III in Social Care.
All drivers are required to undertake the Minibus Drivers Awareness
Scheme test (MIDAS).
Amongst other courses members of our staff have completed are:
Handling & Moving; Dementia Awareness; Dealing with Violence
& Aggression; Health & Safety; First Aid and Risk
Assessment; Elementary Food Hygiene; Oral Hygiene; Core Skills
Training; Drug & Alcohol Abuse; Falls Awareness; Chiropody;
Palliative Care; Pressure Care as well as various other in-house
training.

Beechgrove House is open 24 hours a day.
Criteria for the Service
The service is specifically aimed at adults over the age of 65
years. However, there are exceptions to this rule, and individual
circumstances will be carefully assessed.
Perth & Kinross Council has its own Criteria for Eligibility to Community Care
Services for adults. Before you receive services at Beechgrove,
you must be assessed against this criteria and appropriate services
will be offered where available and applicable.
Details of referral process
Referrals can be made by anyone with a vested interest i.e.
friends, neighbours, relatives, prospective client, Social
Work/Health Care staff. Initial contact should be made through Access Team (0845 30 111 20) who will perform
initial assessment and advise on available services.
