Care Home Activity Network
A 'Care Home Meaningful Activity' Conference was organised in
March 2010.
This conference was extremely successful and attended by over
120 staff including 86 from the care home sector as well as other
key stakeholder agencies.
Due to the interest, following this event, in developing a local
network, a separate 'Care Home Activity Network' (CHAN) steering
group was formed.
Ultimately the main purpose of the CHAN is to contribute to
driving up standards of care for the 49 care homes (local
authority, private and voluntary) within Perth and Kinross and meet
the Care Inspectorate standards around the provision of
meaningful activity to improve the quality of life for care homes
residents.
To date, 20 care homes within the Perth and Kinross area have
formally committed to the network with additional ones continuing
to join. Quarterly meetings have been organised for CHAN members
which provides a forum for Care Home staff to network and share
activity ideas, examples of best practice, resources, support and
training.
The CHAN group had been nominated in the category of "improving
services through partnership" at the Perth & Kinross Council
'Securing the Future Awards 2011' and successfully won a silver
award in what was the largest and most competitive category in the
awards.
This award was a reflection of the time and effort put in by all
the group members from the care homes who have signed up to the
CHAN.
