Retail
Retail plays an important role in the economy of Perthshire. It is a major employer both directly and indirectly and attracts a significant number of visitors to the area. With a wide range and diversity of shops and businesses throughout Perthshire, the area offers something for everyone.
Shopping
Perth boasts a surprisingly comprehensive range of outlets for its size, with national high street chains like Marks and Spencer, BHS and Waterstones rubbing shoulders comfortably with long-established independent local retailers such as McEwens of Perth and Fenwicks, plus a series of seasonal street markets offering a lavish choice of quality foods, crafts and artworks. The mix is highly eclectic, with all major clothing, household, leisure and cultural needs served, together with one of the best ranges of speciality shops in Scotland, ranging from designer-label couture to antiques and collectibles, from outdoor clothing to fine bone china and glass.

The Motor Mile
One particular sector, the motor trade, has made Perth very much its own, notably on the famous 'Motor Mile' stretch of Dunkeld Road where almost all the main car manufacturers are represented.
The Farmers Market
Perth Farmers Market was the first of its kind market in Scotland and was initiated in 1999 by Jim Fairlie of Glenearn Lamb. Jim had visited producers' markets in France and was convinced that the problems facing Scottish Farmers could be resolved to some extent by opening the market place up to allow producers to sell directly to the public.
The response was fantastic and five years on Perth Farmers Market remains one of the most buoyant in Scotland with around 40 stallholders ranging from meat and fish producers to fruit and veg and dairy products.
The market can be found on the King Edward Street , Perth on the first Saturday of every month. For further details visit www.perthfarmersmarket.co.uk
