What is Perth 800?

Perth 800 will be a year long programme of events and activities for local residents and visitors to Perth.

Why is it happening in 2010?

The Perth 800 programme is to mark the 800th anniversary of Perth being granted Royal Burgh status by King William the Lion of Scotland in 1210.

Who is behind Perth 800?

Perth & Kinross Council will lead on the Perth 800 project, working in conjunction with organisations in both the public and private sector.

What are the key objectives of Perth 800?

The objectives of the Perth 800 programme are to:

  • engage with local communities and engender civic pride
  • stimulate economic growth through tourism
  • enhance the national and international profile of Perth and Kinross
  • create a foundation for Perth to bid for formal city status in 2012 

What are the messages we want to convey through Perth 800?

  • Perth has played an important role in Scotland's history and will continue to do so in the future
  • A high quality of life
  • An exciting and dynamic place to live, work, visit and invest
  • A pivotal role in the cultural, economic, social and sporting life of Scotland 

What are the main themes?

The core themes of the programme are:

  • Culture & Sport
  • Heritage
  • The Economy

Running across these themes are the horizontal themes:

  • The Future (Schools/ Technology)
  • Communities
  • Twinning 

Who is Perth 800 aimed at?

The target audiences for the Perth 800 programme are:

  • Local residents (including local businesses and community groups)
  • Leisure Tourism Visitors (day visitors and UK/overseas overnight visitors)
  • Business Tourism Visitors (day visitors and UK/ overseas overnight visitors)
  • Opinion Leaders & Key Influencers (MPs, MSPs, business leaders, senior government and NGO officials, senior representatives of special interest groups)
  • Key intermediaries (local & national private and public sector agencies, local and national media, travel trade)

How can I promote Perth 800?

If you are a local business, event organiser or community group you can get involved and support the Perth 800 brand.
There are several ways for you to do this including using the Perth 800 logo in your brochure or our online web banners on your website.  The Perth 800 Toolkit includes:
