Fares, lost property and public holidays
Fares
In the case of commercial bus services the operator sets the
fares. However for services operated under contract to the Council,
the Public Transport Unit specifies the maximum fares that can be
charged. For example a single local bus journey of less than 4
miles should generally never cost more than £1.35 adult
single.
Multi journey tickets
It is worth noting that return fares, and 10 or 12 journey
tickets, are available on many routes, and these will provide
discounts on the single adult fare.
A number of operators also offer day rover or "zonal" multi-day
tickets. For example, Stagecoach Perth sell Megarider
tickets, that give unlimited travel on Stagecoach Perth buses for
seven days. Their "Megarider" ticket is £7.50 and is
limited to Perth City area, whilst "Megarider+" is £9.50 and
covers certain settlements outwith the Perth City area.
On routes operated under contract to the Council, return and 10
journey tickets issued by another operator on the same route, or
between common points on parallel routes, will be accepted on the
Council funded route without further payment.
Child fares
Children under five generally travel free if accompanied by an
adult, whilst children who are at least five but under sixteen
years of age will receive a discount on the adult single
fare.
Full fares information can be obtained by contacting the relevant
operator or by asking the bus driver. Please note that fares
may be subject to change at short notice.
Lost property
Should you leave anything on a local bus service you should
contact the bus operator in the first instance. Operators
have to follow national guidelines on how they deal with lost
property, which requires them to keep non-perishable items in safe
custody for a month, prior to disposal. A small fee may be
charged for the return of lost property.
Public holidays
Traditionally on 25 December and 1 January no local bus services
operate. On 26 December and 2 January service levels are
often reduced, whilst some operators do not operate any
buses. Details on what will operate can be obtained from the
relevant bus operator or from the Council's Public Transport Unit,
telephone 0845 3011130 or email publictransport@pkc.gov.uk.
On other public holidays during the year, the majority of bus
services will operate a normal timetable. Any proposed
changes should be advertised on the bus, alternatively contact the
relevant operator prior to travel.
