Road Signs
The Council, as Roads Authority, provides signs in order to give information to the road user. The
Highway Code gives examples of the most common signs in normal use. Traffic signs generally fall into the following categories:
- Regulatory signs – signs with red circles
- Warning signs – mostly triangular
- Direction signs – mostly rectangles containing destinations
- Information signs - mostly rectangular
All traffic signs on the road must be authorised by the Council. Special signs are sometimes allowed with prior approval from the Scottish Executive, or if they are experimental or under trial. If you would like further information on road signs please contact: see contact details
