Speed Activated Signs
Last updated | 19/05/2008
The Council operates a rotating programme of placing vehicle activated signs within a reduced speed limit close to the entry point of selected sites. The signs display a road safety message and are set to a pre-determined speed threshold. These signs are used in addition to conventional static signing to encourage drivers to comply with the lower limit in force. Sites are selected on vehicle speeds, accident history and concerns about road safety expressed by Tayside Police and the local community.

Permanent speed activated signs, which display vehicle speeds, are currently being trialled in the 20mph zone on High Street in Burrelton to encourage compliance with the lower limit in force.
Part-time 20mph zones have been introduced around a series of schools across the Council area. The reduced speed limits apply on term-time mornings, lunchtimes and afternoons when children are travelling to or from school. The new signs are enhanced by flashing amber lights during those times when the reduced speed limits apply.
Permanent solar-powered signs have been installed at four rural locations as part of a programme of measures within a route action plan:
- A91 Devon Bridge, Carnbo
- A912 Binn, Glenfarg
- B8079 Killiecrankie
- C409 Glenalmond
