Gritting and Snow Clearing
This section explains how Perth & Kinross Council aims to keep
the roads safe during the winter months. Information is provided on
the council
policy on gritting, as well as information on
road gritting,
pavement gritting and
grit bins.
The gritting and snowclearing service is provided to ensure that
transport links essential to economic and social activity can
continue safely throughout most of the winter. However, it is not
the intention and is not possible to keep all roads free from ice
and snow at all times, therefore some routes are given priority.
These routes are shown in our
interactive map of gritting routes. This map only shows the
primary routes we maintain, and we may grit other routes which do
not appear on the map. You can also find out
how members of the public can help.
The Council's plans reflect the relative importance of the various
routes, and the prevailing conditions throughout the area.
Full manning on standby is provided from 21 November to 19 March,
with a reduced level from 24 October to 21 November and 19
March to 16 April.
When the road and weather conditions (either actual or forecast)
make it necessary, treatment will be carried out between the
hours of 6am and 9pm (8am on Sundays and Public Holidays).
The
FAQ section on this site provides answers to commonly asked
questions, and
advice is provided for members of the public. If you do have
