Grit Bins
Last updated | 11/10/2011
There are about 1,000 grit bins placed at hills, on corners or at
steps. Members of the public can use these to spread salt on the
road or pavement to melt snow or ice.
Grit bins are not for
private use - they are there to benefit the whole
community. Private occupiers should buy salt from DIY
stores or builders merchants for use on their own property.
We routinely check and top up the grit bins. In severe weather,
there is a huge demand on grit bins which means that they get
emptied very quickly. We will re-fill bins as soon as possible and
would appreciate if residents could contact us on 01738 476476 if
their bin empty, so we can make sure it is refilled as soon as we
possibly can.
