Verge maintenance
In urban areas the Council's aim is to provide a grass surface of
high quality, using as few chemicals as possible.
In rural areas, the council cuts the verges once a year to
provide safe refuge for pedestrians. Visibility splays near
junctions are cut at the same time. In its care of verges the
council will also seek to improve wildlife habitats and
biodiversity.
Overunning of verges
A single vehicle driving onto a verge when the soil is damp can be
all it takes to create a rut. Repeated driving onto verges will
turn the surface into a muddy waste. Drivers who cause damage to
grass verges will be liable for the cost of their
repair.
Parking on verges
Drivers are asked not to drive or park on grass verges.
The council may take action should an individual damage a verge,
and may reclaim the costs of repair.
If you are aware of an individual causing a persistent
