The Childcare Challenge - encouraging men into childcare

In Scotland very few men choose a career in childcare, however research shows that children really do benefit from having male staff in childcare settings.

Perth & Kinross Council would like to encourage more men to work in childcare, so the Childcare Strategy Team is running a free bespoke course specifically for males aged 16+ who are interested in working with children in a professional capacity.

Names are now being taken for the next Men in Childcare Training course which will be held from 6.30 pm - 8.30 pm on Monday evenings from 5 February to June 2018 in the Community Wing at Perth Grammar School.

The course consists of two (SQA accredited) units and a practical placement:

  • Child Development
  • Play
  • A practical working in childcare placement

This gives participants an introduction to working in childcare, providing underpinning knowledge and an opportunity to work in a  childcare setting (subject to a PVG check)

The Childcare Strategy Team would be keen to hear from any men who are interested in taking part in future courses, whether they are considering working in childcare or would like to gain additional training to enhance their future career opportunities in sports coaching, teaching or social work.
