Council's fourth Modern Apprentice (MA) Graduation

The successes of 53 young people were celebrated at Perth & Kinross Council's fourth Modern Apprentice Graduation (MA) ceremony today. The event recognises the completion of their Modern Apprenticeship with the Council and partner organisations.

The MAs received their Awards from the Council's Chief Executive, Bernadette Malone and Provost Liz Grant.

Chief Executive, Bernadette Malone commented, "Congratulations to our class of 2017 on achieving this significant milestone at the start of their careers.  I wish you every success for the future and hope that you have a truly memorable day."

Provost Liz Grant commented, "As Provost of Perth and Kinross it is always a pleasure to recognise the commitment and hard work of our Modern Apprentices. Their skills, fresh ideas and enthusiasm are very much valued within Perth & Kinross Council and by our partners."

The Council is committed to providing opportunities for young people and delivered our 5 year target to provide 250 Modern Apprentice opportunities by 2017 a year early, and have now set a new target of providing 400 opportunities by 2018.  More importantly, over 94 per cent of Modern Apprentices have moved on to a positive destination either through securing permanent/fixed term employment or further education.

New for 2017 is the Modern Apprentice of the Year Award, and we are proud to announce the winner is Paul Moran, Facilities Services Assistant. Paul joined the Council in July 2015 as a Facilities Services Modern Apprentice and has since progressed to Facilities Assistant after successfully completing an SVQ in Facilities Management. Paul's enthusiasm and willingness to learn is evident through volunteering to complete the Velotech Cycling Award (Silver) which enables him to teach adults and children about cycle maintenance, and School Crossing Patroller Training. Paul continually goes the extra mile and was shortlisted for the Perthshire Chamber of Commerce Apprentice of the Year Award in November 2016.
