First phase of Mill Street improvement works due for completion soon

The ongoing public realm improvement works to create a 'Cultural Quarter' in Perth's Mill Street will take another major step forward with the completion of Phase 1 of the works during the week beginning Monday 22 May 2017.

This will see the Mill Street works completed from George Street to the proposed new car park adjacent to Boots. Works during next week will involve laying of the final road surfacing to complement the footway areas that are already complete.

To allow this work to be carried out safely, a temporary road closure is required. Mill Street will be closed at Kinnoull Street for the full week. A diversion will be in place, with access maintained to the car park adjacent to Marks & Spencer on Tuesday 23, Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 May. To access the car park on those days, drivers should take access from the George Street end of Mill Street.  There will, however be no access to this car park on Monday 22 or Friday 26 May. Delivery access for businesses will be maintained throughout this phase of the works.

Once the surfacing work is completed on Friday 26 May, the road will then be opened up to traffic in a one way system (Kinnoull Street to George Street). During the following week, the works will then move on to Phase 2 of the improvements, concentrating on the footway outside Pullar House. Works to this footway are expected to take up to six weeks to complete.  Pedestrian access to Mill Street will be maintained throughout the works.

The remainder of the Phase 2 works will be carried out as part of the redevelopment of Perth Theatre which is due to re-open in October 2017.

The arrangements for the works have been the subject of prior discussions with neighbouring businesses. Contractors Kilmac Construction will endeavour to keep noise and disruption to a minimum however some disruption should be anticipated while the works are ongoing, and the Council regrets any inconvenience which may arise as a result.
