New rural events funding available for 2018-19

Funding is available in the current financial year for supporting new rural events, a report to the next Environment and Infrastructure Committee on Wednesday 23 May 2018 will outline.

A non-recurring amount of £100,000 has been set aside in the budget process for 2018-19. Applications are open for groups in rural communities to seek start-up funding for brand new events. The funding would be open for events planned to be held on a recurring basis and appeal to visitors from outside the immediate local area.

Councillors will be asked to agree specific criteria for considering applications for support from this funding pot, including:
- An event is in its inaugural year and appears viable;
- There is a clear vision and plan for the event and its future development;
- It is intended that the event is annually recurring and not a 'one off', so funding would be pump-priming;
- The event owner is an established constituted body and can demonstrate community support;
- The event will be held in a rural community, outwith Perth and Scone; and
- There are other sources of projected funding including ticket income, sponsorship and other grants.

The Committee will also consider a funding request from Crieff Succeeds Ltd, the town's Business Improvement District (BID). The request relates to a proposed series of outdoor performances at Drummond Castle in November and December 2018. If approved, the request would be supported by this new fund.

Councillor Angus Forbes, Environment and Infrastructure Convener, said: "The £100K set aside in this year's budget is aimed at supporting fresh rural events that have the potential to bring in people from further afield to Perth and Kinross. With examples like the Enchanted Forest showing what we can do locally, this is an opportunity to build on what we have to offer as an area. It is important that we help new events get off the ground which can bring additional economic benefit to rural communities into the future."
