Perth to host Glasgow Warriors pre-season match

Rugby fans will flock to Perth this summer for an exclusive chance to watch professional rugby union team Glasgow Warriors go head to head with English Premiership team the Harlequins on the North Inch.

The pre-season match takes place on Saturday 18 August, and will see the two giants of the sport face-off on the Perthshire Rugby Football Club pitch on the banks of the River Tay. A 5,000-capacity arena will be constructed on the Inch to host the fans, and tickets go on general sale on the Glasgow Warriors website from Monday 18 June 2018.

The event will be part one of a huge weekend of activity in the city centre, with the stadium seating brought in to create the rugby arena, also being used to host a Perthshire RFC match later that day, before being transformed into the venue for the second annual City of Perth Salute the following day.

Councillor Murray Lyle, Leader of Perth & Kinross Council, said: "It is a great show of faith in Perth that Glasgow Warriors have chosen our city to play host to this high profile pre-season match, and a tribute to the successful work undertaken between Perth & Kinross Council, the Glasgow Warriors, and Perthshire RFC to make this happen. The North Inch is a fantastic location, and it will be an excellent opportunity to see a host of international rugby players compete in the heart of the city."

Councillor Angus Forbes, Convener of the Environment & Infrastructure, added: "Once the rugby matches have been played the city centre will be taken over by live music and performances on the Sunday with the City of Perth Salute. Following on from a hugely successful inaugural year in 2017, a range of musical performers and more will parade from the South Inch, along Tay Street, ending with a huge outdoor event within the arena space created on the North Inch. This looks likely to be a huge weekend of sport and entertainment for Perth."
