Little Free Library helps celebrate International Literacy Day in Perth and Kinross

To mark International Literacy Day 2018 in Perth and Kinross (Saturday 8 September), Perth & Kinross Council's Culture and Communities Service has set up a 'Little Free Library' for foreign language books, in partnership with Culture Perth and Kinross.

Little Free Libraries are a global phenomenon due to the simple yet innovative idea of freely exchanging books between readers. These small book exchanges already number 36,000 worldwide, with the initiative now coming to the heart of Perth as well at Blend Coffee Lounge in the Old High Street.

Men's Shed Perth and local artists have made and decorated three little libraries for the project, with the aim of bringing together communities, language learners and visitors to the Fair City to share their books and create new reader communities.

Foreign language books can be donated to the international book exchange at Blend, and donors are being encouraged to freely 'take a book and leave another later'.
